Time After Time

Lying in my bed, I hear the clock tick and think of you. Caught up in circles, confusion is nothing new. Flashback, warm nights almost left behind. Suitcase of memories, time after. Sometimes, you picture me, I’m walking too far ahead. You’re calling to me, I can’t hear what you’ve said. Then you say, “Go slow”. I fall behind. The second hand unwinds. If you’re lost, you can look, and you will find me. Time after time. If you fall, I will catch you, I’ll be waiting. Time after time.

My sister is celebrating eleven years with her husband tomorrow, and I couldn’t be happier for the two of them. A life well lived together with the people we love is something I think most would have at the top of their proverbial bucket lists. It has me pondering my own relationships, and being grateful for how wonderful things have been. I’ve spent eight years with my beautiful partner, known in world as Michi. It feels as though we both just started dating yesterday and have also spent an entire lifetime together. We knew one another for years before we got into a relationship, introduced by who was then my partner and her co-worker.

I knew the moment I was introduced to her that I was in love with her. The way her eyes lit up when she talked about things she was interested in, her big happy ass smile, her contagious laughter, how kind and caring she was despite all of her struggles. She was and is beautiful inside and out, and I fell for her so fast and so hard. We weathered a lot, individually and together those first few years that we knew one another, and again when we started our relationship. A solid foundation of friendship, admiration, and mutual support really paved the way for an already incredible start to something magical. She ultimately lead to my discovery of how to love myself, and I’ve been repaying that once in a lifetime gift ever since.

There’s something indescribable about finding your soulmate. It’s not just romance. It’s finishing one another’s thoughts, knowing what the other is thinking without a word. It’s spending an entire car ride home from an appointment making the captioned seal sea doggo noises at one another. It’s driving across the entire country on a whim to help a friend and never feeling discontent in being next to one another. You never run out of things to say to each other, but you also find joy in the simple silences you share. It’s knowing that whether you’re spending every second with each other, taking time for yourselves, engaging in leisure or handling errands, your perfect someone is right there next to you.

And she is. She really is.

I know that Myka has her perfect someone in Silas, and I’m so happy for them both. Eleven years is a long time and no time at all. Eleven more years from now, they’ll be able to look back on this milestone and laugh about how it was only yesterday and also a lifetime ago. I hope that the day reveals to them the warmth of every “I love you” they’ve shared over the last decade and some change. They both deserve every happiness, and I know they’ve found a great deal of it in each other. This is sort of where this blog comes in to play. So I guess I’ll stop my sappy talk and get down to talking about what it is I’m covering here.
